Microneedling, a collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that helps rejuvenate aging skin, improve the appearance of the skin, and can minimize the signs of aging. Microneedling helps to stimulate your body’s own collagen production by a way of “wound healing”. The treatment is too make small wounds on the skin to initiate the healing and production of collagen.
This procedure treats wrinkles, hyper pigmentation ( sun spots/age spots), sun damage, acne scars, stretch marks, thin skin density, rosacea, keloids, uneven tone or texture, and minimizes pores.
How does it work?
The microneedling device causes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate the body’s natural wound healing process. The micro-injuries trigger the release of cytokines and growth factors that lead to the re-building of collagen and elastin. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops. The wound will be replace with new dermal tissue.
What areas can be treated?
The face is one of the most popular areas to be treated. However, microneedling can be performed on all parts of the body, including the neck, decollete, hands, legs, arms, back and abdomen.
What is the downtime?
We recommend that patients do not make plans for right after the procedure. It is best to go straight home immediately after their treatment. The skin will be red and slightly swollen right after the procedure, quite similar to a sunburn. The redness and swelling typically improves on day two. On day three, most redness and swelling has subsided, and any noticeable redness is easily covered up with makeup. You will need to completely avoid the sun during this time. Most of the time, patients who have this procedure on a Friday should be okay to return to work on Monday and are allowed to wear makeup.
